NCMHCE Tutoring with a Licensed Therapist Who Passed the Exam

If you're studying for the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination, you do not want the exam to delay your clinical career. People come to tutoring at different points. Some need help understanding the narratives and simulations, some need accountability and structure for studying, and some need more content review before they are ready to sit for the exam.

I'm a licensed therapist (LCPC in Illinois, LPC in Georgia and Pennsylvania, LMHC in Washington) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I've passed both the NCE and the NCMHCE, and I worked for many years as a diagnostic rater completing assessments. That background shapes how I teach clinical reasoning, content, and test-taking strategy. You can read more about my background on the About page.

I begin by assessing your current test readiness, then build an effective study strategy around your strengths, content gaps, confidence, and timeline. The goal is to help you plan to take the exam when you are prepared, with a clear structure for the work between now and then.

What I help with

  • Assessing your current readiness and identifying the content gaps that matter most
  • Working through clinical narratives and simulations the way the exam expects them to be handled
  • Catching the modality + ethics + scope-of-practice combination that drives most of the answers
  • Building accountability and structure into your study plan
  • Study approaches for time management and memorization, plus question-analysis and test-taking strategies
  • Time management across the exam's clinical simulations and your overall preparation timeline
  • Exam anxiety, with techniques matched to your situation
  • Targeted content review on the areas you keep missing, plus outside study resources worth your time

How it works

One-on-one sessions are 50 minutes, virtual, and $130 per session. We start with a readiness assessment and a conversation about where you are in your preparation, what has been difficult, and when you hope to take the exam. From there, we build a plan around your strengths, weaknesses, content needs, and confidence.

As seen on Counselingexam.com, I coach and tutor individuals who are preparing for licensure and working to pass the NCMHCE. Some candidates use both a program and one-on-one tutoring, and some use just one.

Who this is for

  • LCSW, LPC, LMHC, LMFT, or LCPC candidates preparing for the NCMHCE
  • Counselors who've taken the exam before and want a different angle this time
  • Counselors who want exam-anxiety help, not just content review

First step

A short consultation to talk through your timeline and where you're struggling. Then we book sessions or you walk away with a clearer plan. Either is fine.

Frequently asked questions

How many sessions will I need?

That depends on your current readiness, content gaps, and timeline. After the initial readiness assessment, I will give you a clearer study strategy and timetable based on where you are starting and how confident you feel.

Do you cover the NCE too?

Yes. The National Counselor Examination is structurally different but I tutor for both.
